Hunters Creek
Sensitive placement on a tree filled ridge overlooking wetlands and a small inland lake gave a timeless distinction to this residential retreat/conference/training facility for an international corporation. Natural materials with modern details give it warmth and rustic comfort. Views and vistas abound, interior and outdoor spaces intertwine and high-tech amenities blossom discretely amid the charm and distinctive beauty of this truly special place. Studio B delivered.

Comfort was paramount from hearthside to lakeside, from boardroom to exercise room. From gourmet kitchen to rustic patios, from tree-bark paths to data ports at en-suite spas. Flexibility was required for gourmet banquets or picnic barbeques. To provide state-of-the-art technology but keep the rustic environment. To support groups as small as ten or as large as sixty while providing a sense of intimacy and warmth for all. Providing a dense infrastructure without disrupting the charm and natural beauty of the pristine site - Studio B delivered.

Private Gym - Basketball Pavilion
For a local sports celebrity, basketball is very special; it is workout, therapy, fun with friends and a return to basic instincts. Studio B Architects designed this pavilion on a private residential property as a celebration of that spirit.

Conceived to blend into the surrounding semi-rural, wooded environment, the basketball pavilion is barn-like in its form and imagery. The simple octagonal structure is sited on a hillside within rolling terrain and nested within dense foliage to minimize its volume. The blond maple wood flooring, the exposed roof structure and the cupola providing natural ventilation and light elevates the essence of the basketball experience for this client. 

Studio B successfully assisted the client in obtaining a setback variance for the freestanding pavilion, and solicited all bidding and construction services as well.

Grosse Pointe Farms Residence
On a tight urban site Studio B saved an ancient silver maple while adding a family room, breakfast nook, master suite and a spacious deck to this modest home for a growing family.

Birmingham Residence
New and enlivened spaces transformed this modest house into a home of distinction. As this family matured, the need to provide for diverse interests of three generations was the impetus for expansion and renovation. First floor changes included a three-room suite for the Owners’ mother, a living room realigned for classical music study and performance, a new gourmet kitchen and gracious rear entrance to support entertainment of family and friends. The second floor renovation improved the master bedroom suite and provided an inspirational atelier in the new attic space above the porch, with wonderful north light for drawing and painting. The new entrance celebrates the family’s time spent in the new family room and kitchen towards the rear of the home. Enhancing the family’s pattern of entering the home from the side yard, rather than the front door, the new entrance features a brick patio and semi-circular porch as transition from outside to within. The rounded porch and the steeply pitched roof just behind it provide a distinguished new image, clearly articulating the new entrance and providing an outdoor living room, from which the family can enjoy the views of their lush rear lawn and the backdrop of trees beyond.
