Andrew Hubbard

Designer

Bachelor of Arts in Architecture

Miami University, 2016

Master of Architecture

University of Colorado Denver, 2020

Drew has been surrounded by architecture and the practice of design most of his life. Whether it was assisting the restoration of his family’s Late Victorian home in Wicker Park, Chicago or experimenting in the garage workshop for his father’s furniture company, he always found a way to continue creating. Exposure to moments like these fostered an unwavering love for making, which continues to propel his design process today.

In pursuit of his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Miami University, Drew took an interest in the intersection between contemporary design and vernacular architecture. He participated in two Design-Build programs: the first in Ghana, West Africa, and the second in Za’atari Refugee Camp, Jordan. These experiences cultivated his fascination with regional design and local building techniques, as well as a deeper understanding of architecture’s influence on the human condition.

The University of Colorado Denver’s highly recognized Colorado Building Workshop, within the College of Architecture and Planning, lured Drew to the Mile High City in 2018. Following matriculation, he participated in the design and construction of the Cottonwood Gulch Cabins featured in multiple publications as well as the recipient of the AIA Western Mountain Region Honor Award. For Drew, the immersive practice underscored the importance of establishing a connection between architecture and place. This sentiment continues to refine his approach to design and create environmentally responsive architecture.

Currently, he enjoys fabricating his own furniture designs and working on his Land Cruiser project. When Drew is not tinkering, he loves spending his time outside. You can often find him snowboarding, backpacking, camping, and taking his truck on 4x4 trails.
