From early on, Raquel was attracted to the arts and design. Growing up in Managua, Nicaragua, she took ceramic, drawing and painting classes and performed modern jazz dance in local theaters.
Following her interest in design, she moved to Arkansas in 2005 to attend the Fay Jones School of Architecture, where she fell in love with contemporary architectural practices and committed to challenge convention. In 2010, her thesis project “Marfa Rare Books Library and Cinema Art” received the Pella Award and was featured in Archiprix International (exhibit and workshop at MIT) as one of “The World’s Best Graduation Projects of the Year”.
During her studies and after graduation, Raquel had multiple internships with renowned firms in different cities in the U.S including; Brooks + Scarpa in Los Angeles and Olson Kundig Architects in Seattle, where she polished her artistic rendering and model making skills.
Raquel joined Studio B in the summer of 2017, after living and practicing architecture in Boulder for 5 years. She promotes community outreach and constant connection between our studio and wider public networks, while immersed in all phases of the design and building process.
As a social entrepreneur, Raquel believes that creativity through art and design can heal the world. She practices yoga, meditation and has an ongoing drawing project: Kukiko - The Yoga Chicken - an organization that supports Nicaraguan children to overcome trauma.
